Netscape 7: How to set up a POP3 account PDF Print E-mail
This article details how to set up a POP3 e-mail account under Netscape 7x.

================================================

Instructions for setting up a POP3 email account
for: Netscape 7.x
================================================

1.) Open Netscape 7
2.) When the main Netscape window comes up, click
on "Window" at the top, then click "Mail &
Newsgroups".

(This will bring up a new window)

3.) If this is your first time using Netscape Mail,
a Wizard may pop up. Please click the "Cancel"
button (or the X button in the upper right
corner of the window) to get out of this Wizard,
before continuing.

4.) At the top of the Netscape Mail window, please
click on "Edit", then click on "Mail & Newsgroup
Account Settings".

(This will bring up a new window)

5.) On the left side of the window, you should see
a box with a white background. Inside that box,
you should see two or three lines of text:

Local Folders
Outgoing Server(SMTP)
Free Webmail

If you see anything else in the white box, you
have probably set up a Netscape Mail account
before. This is not a problem, but you should
be aware of the fact that you have two email
accounts set up in Netscape Mail.

6.) Below the white box, you should see a button
labeled "Add Account". Please click this button
now.

(This will bring up a new window labeled "Account
Wizard")

7.) Click the circle next to "Email Account".

There should now be a dot inside the circle to
the left of "Email Account". If there
isn't a dot inside the circle, please click the
circle again until there is a dot inside it.

8.) Click the "Next" button.

(This will change the window's contents)

9.) You will be presented with two fields:

Your Name:______________________________

User name:______________________________

Please type your full name (i.e. John D. Smith)
into the "Your Name:" field, and type your
account username into the "User name:" field.

10.) Click the "Next" button.

(This will change the window's contents)

11.) You will be presented with a "Server Information"
dialog with the following options:

(o) POP o IMAP

Incoming Server:____________________________

In the "Incoming Server" field, please enter:

pop3.wingnet.net

And make sure the "POP" option is selected
(if it is selected, it will have a dot inside
the circle to the left of it).

12.) Click the "Next" button.

(This will change the window's contents)

13.) You will now be presented with a "User Name"
dialog with the following options:

User Name:________________________________

Please enter the part of your wingnet email
address BEFORE the '@' symbol in the "User
Name:" field.

For example, if your wingnet email address
is "joebob@wingnet.net", your "User Name:"
field should look like this:

User Name:_joebob________________________

14.) Click the "Next" button.

(This will change the window's contents)

15.) You will now be presented with the "Account Name"
dialog with the following options:

Account Name:____________________________

Please fill this field with a name for your
account. You can call it anything you want.

For example, you could call your account
"My Wingnet Email Account".

16.) Click the "Next" button.

(This will change the window's contents)

17.) You will now be presented with a window that
asks you to "verify that the information below
is correct".

Please review the information, then click
the "Finish" button.

(This will take you back to the "Mail &
Newsgroups Account Settings" window)

18.) Here, you should recognize the white box on the
left from step #5. Except, now the box will contain
something like the following:

Local Folders
Outgoing Server (SMTP)
My Wingnet Email Account
Server Settings
Copies and Folders
Addressing
Disk Space
Return Receipts
Security

Please Highlight "My Wingnet Email Account"
by Left Clicking on it ONCE with your mouse.

(The text background will darken to let you know
that it is selected)

Then click the "Set as Default" button below the
white box.

19.) Click the "OK" Button at the bottom of the window.

20.) Congratulations! You have just set up your WingNET
POP3 email account!

To check your email for the first time, please
highlight the account named "WingNET Mail - username"
in the left window pane, then click "Read messages"
in the right window pane.

(This will popup a password dialog)

21.) Please type your password into the password dialog
box and click the "OK" button.

(Your mail will be downloaded, and you will be returned
to the main Netscape Mail screen.)

22.) You can now check your mail by clicking the "Get Msg"
button at the top, or Compose and email by clicking
the "New Msg" button at the top.
