This article details how to set up a POP3 e-mail account under Netscape 7x.
================================================ Instructions for setting up a POP3 email account for: Netscape 7.x ================================================
1.) Open Netscape 7 2.) When the main Netscape window comes up, click on "Window" at the top, then click "Mail & Newsgroups".
(This will bring up a new window)
3.) If this is your first time using Netscape Mail, a Wizard may pop up. Please click the "Cancel" button (or the X button in the upper right corner of the window) to get out of this Wizard, before continuing.
4.) At the top of the Netscape Mail window, please click on "Edit", then click on "Mail & Newsgroup Account Settings".
(This will bring up a new window)
5.) On the left side of the window, you should see a box with a white background. Inside that box, you should see two or three lines of text:
Local Folders Outgoing Server(SMTP) Free Webmail
If you see anything else in the white box, you have probably set up a Netscape Mail account before. This is not a problem, but you should be aware of the fact that you have two email accounts set up in Netscape Mail.
6.) Below the white box, you should see a button labeled "Add Account". Please click this button now.
(This will bring up a new window labeled "Account Wizard")
7.) Click the circle next to "Email Account". There should now be a dot inside the circle to the left of "Email Account". If there isn't a dot inside the circle, please click the circle again until there is a dot inside it.
8.) Click the "Next" button.
(This will change the window's contents)
9.) You will be presented with two fields:
Your Name:______________________________
User name:______________________________
Please type your full name (i.e. John D. Smith) into the "Your Name:" field, and type your account username into the "User name:" field.
10.) Click the "Next" button.
(This will change the window's contents)
11.) You will be presented with a "Server Information" dialog with the following options:
(o) POP o IMAP
Incoming Server:____________________________
In the "Incoming Server" field, please enter:
pop3.wingnet.net
And make sure the "POP" option is selected (if it is selected, it will have a dot inside the circle to the left of it).
12.) Click the "Next" button.
(This will change the window's contents)
13.) You will now be presented with a "User Name" dialog with the following options:
User Name:________________________________
Please enter the part of your wingnet email address BEFORE the '@' symbol in the "User Name:" field.
For example, if your wingnet email address is "joebob@wingnet.net", your "User Name:" field should look like this:
User Name:_joebob________________________
14.) Click the "Next" button.
(This will change the window's contents)
15.) You will now be presented with the "Account Name" dialog with the following options:
Account Name:____________________________
Please fill this field with a name for your account. You can call it anything you want.
For example, you could call your account "My Wingnet Email Account".
16.) Click the "Next" button.
(This will change the window's contents)
17.) You will now be presented with a window that asks you to "verify that the information below is correct".
Please review the information, then click the "Finish" button.
(This will take you back to the "Mail & Newsgroups Account Settings" window)
18.) Here, you should recognize the white box on the left from step #5. Except, now the box will contain something like the following:
Local Folders Outgoing Server (SMTP) My Wingnet Email Account Server Settings Copies and Folders Addressing Disk Space Return Receipts Security
Please Highlight "My Wingnet Email Account" by Left Clicking on it ONCE with your mouse.
(The text background will darken to let you know that it is selected)
Then click the "Set as Default" button below the white box.
19.) Click the "OK" Button at the bottom of the window.
20.) Congratulations! You have just set up your WingNET POP3 email account!
To check your email for the first time, please highlight the account named "WingNET Mail - username" in the left window pane, then click "Read messages" in the right window pane.
(This will popup a password dialog)
21.) Please type your password into the password dialog box and click the "OK" button.
(Your mail will be downloaded, and you will be returned to the main Netscape Mail screen.)
22.) You can now check your mail by clicking the "Get Msg" button at the top, or Compose and email by clicking the "New Msg" button at the top.
