Why do I occasionally get disconnected while online? |

|
There are several reasons as to why you may be cut off:
- You may not have call waiting disabled. If you have
call waiting and it is not disabled you can get disconnected when someone
tries to call you on the other line. To disable it do the following:
Windows 98/XP-
- Right click on the
WingNET icon and choose Properties.
- Press the “Dialing
Rules” button and click beside “Use Prefix”.
- Choose the prefix on
the right that is required by your phone service.
- Click “OK”
- You may have been disconnected due to a time out feature.
There are two possible time out features. The first is the time out
feature on our server. If our server detects a set time of inactivity, you
will be disconnected. If this presents a problem to you, please let us
know at support@wingnet.net in
order for us to serve you better. This can even occur when you are
downloading a file if there is no data transfer for a period of time. The
second is that you have the timeout feature on your modem enabled. To
check this do the following:
Windows 98/XP-
- Right click on the
WingNET icon and choose Properties.
- Choose the “Options”
button and adjust your idle time.
- Click “OK”
- You may have been disconnected due to a data transfer
error. This can occur if data is either being received to slowly or to
fast. In the modem settings (follow previous directions to get to this
section) choose the appropriate modem speed. If you have a 28.8 or higher
choose the 57600 as maximum speed. If you have a 14.4 choose the 19200 as
maximum speed.
- It may be just a fluke thing. Sometimes some problems
happen that cannot be explained. If it was a one time thing it was
probably due to a bad data transfer.
